スーパーマリオはイギリスで４回もアニメ化されていた！
先日、ハリウッドで「マリオも映画の殿堂に」というデモが起きたばかりの海外でのマリオの武勇伝ですが、そんなデモが起きてしまうことも納得できるような凄い事実を突き止めました。
なんとスーパーマリオは1989年にイギリスでアニメ化されていたとのこと。
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!という題名でスタートし、シリーズもので52のエピソードがあるとのこと。しかもマリオの活躍は１シーズンでは終わらず、The Adventure of Super Mario Bros. 3、Super Mario World、Mario All Starsと計４度に渡りアニメ化されてしまうほどの人気を博したようです。
というかイギリスオンリーでDVDも発売されている始末、こうなるとイギリスに友人がいないことを後悔せずにはいられない状況なワケです。
さっそくMARIO PARTYでは広大なウェブ上から、The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!の映像を見つけ出しました。マリオがニンニク喰ってクッパを匂いで撃退するストーリー、オープニングでは名前未確認の実写俳優がリズムに合わせて登場、しばらく踊りつづけて本編がスタートする仕様。ちなみにマリオの方はダッシュやジャンプ出来ないくらいに肥えてます。
何処の国よりもスーパーマリオに親しみを感じていた日本のMARIO PARTYとしては見過ごせないアニメーション、というわけでオレンジオブジェクトくんが早速イギリスのDVD販売ページからDVDの入手を試みました。数日後には手元に届くと思われます。楽しみを残しつつ続報をお待ちください。
オープニングを再閲覧すると、空飛ぶ絨毯に乗るマリオファミリーを確認。当時マリオはアラブ系の人種として認識されていたということでしょうか。
他にもスターに触れるとファイヤーマリオになったりとファンタジー要素満載。もしやマリオがデブでもOKなのはこのアニメーションが元祖なのでは？そんな事を思わずにはいられないファンタジックな映像です。
